Students earn prestigious art awards

BCHS had 16 works of art honored in a regional competition. Over 3,000 students submitted their artwork in the 2018 Central and Southern Indiana Scholastic Art & Writing Competition. Students earned three Gold Keys, four Silver Keys and nine honorable mentions. Those who received Gold Keys will have their artwork judged in the national competition in New York.

Junior Desirae Fuller was awarded two Gold Keys for two of her mixed media artworks. Junior Alison Matheny was awarded a Gold Key for her mixed media work. Junior Taliyah Guy earned two Silver Keys for her two drawings. Junior Cianna Grummer earned a Silver Key for her mixed media work and Senior Sarah Walker earned a Silver Key for her photograph.

Walker has been working hard in order to achieve the awards the she has received. She has attended many different classes and intensives in places such as Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design and IUPUI Herron. Walker said, “I always work to learn new things and experiment with my different materials to expand my knowledge of various mediums.”

All BCHS winners will be honored at the Visions & Voices Awards Ceremony at Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University on March 18 at 2 p.m.
