Jacob deCastro, junior, recently won a contest for submitting a story idea to the Indystar for interviewing the touring cast of “Newsies.”

“The idea came to me as a member of crew for BCHS Theatre productions,” said deCastro. The contest itself was available to students in schools around the Indianapolis area. Out of entries from students around the city, his and a student from Ben Davis High School were selected.

As a result, deCastro got to tour the IndyStar building and interview the cast of the Broadway show “Newsies,” which is coming to Indianapolis March 15. He also gets to write an article about the show that could be featured in the Sunday Edition of the IndyStar.

“The most exciting part of this experience was being able to see what it’s like to be a reporter in the real-world,” said deCastro, “I really enjoyed meeting IndyStar reporters.”
