Speech team looking for students to join new club

The speech team is a new club being offered at BCHS this year and will focus on helping students to build speaking and writing skills. Those involved in the club will have two hour practices each week and compete in meets on Saturdays. The team will have four to six meets to compete in to qualify for sectionals, district and state competitions.

Mrs. Kerensa Edinger, Spanish teacher, and Ms. Brianne Lindsey, theatre teacher, will be the coaches of the speech team. They are being mentored by the Cathedral Speech Team coach, Jeanne Malone.

“I have several friends who loved and benefited from speech team when they were in high school, so I was excited to bring this opportunity to Chatard,” said Mrs. Edinger.

Those interested in joining the team should attend the call out meeting on Wednesday in room 102 during homeroom. There is no experience needed to join the team but all members must pay an $85 fee to cover IHSFA membership and competition fees for the season.

“Joining the team will help students improve their memorization, improvisation, reading, writing, and speaking skills. This can lead to better grades in high school, a more successful college experience, and a better career path. Someone who can speak with authority and eloquence will always enjoy an advantage,” said Mrs. Edinger.
