Seniors Amanda Puente and Sian Rhodes both recently placed third in a photo contest of their trips abroad apart of Indiana University Honors Program in Foreign Languages. The program allowed them to be immersed in the Spanish language by living with local families and going to classes. Puente visited Viña del Mar, Chile and Rhodes visited Cuidad Real, León in Spain during the summer.
With the pictures they had taken from their trips, they had the opportunity to submit up to three in a photo contest. Puente’s picture featured a rocky Oceanside with the city of Viña del Mar in the background and placed third out of the group that traveled there.
“Taking pictures while traveling allows me to remember all the great memories I have and allows me to share with family and friends. I love traveling to new countries and taking pictures of the different culture that I encounter,” said Puente.
Rhodes photo featured a classic flamenco dancer from Madrid and placed third out of the photos submitted by those who traveled to Cuidad Real.
“Photos are important because you have the memories but they can capture what’s going on in the moment and the feelings associated with that. It’s also is a tangible thing to remember your travels with,” said Rhodes.
