Last week, the Indiana Association of School Principals released their list of Rising Stars for the Class of 2019. “Each Indiana high school was invited to recognize up to four students currently in the 11th grade, based on their academic achievement,” the IASP said in their statement. Bishop Chatard nominated juniors Matthias Benko, Alysa Guffey, Greg Oldiges and Claire Williams. They were chosen based on their scholastic excellence and promise.

Greg Oldiges studies in his AP Biology class. This course is one of 5 AP classes on Oldiges’ schedule.

These junior are set apart from their peers. Benko said he has accomplished this by, “always working to stay determined and to be productive.” All four students took Miss Wright’s AP history classes their freshman and sophomore years, and they cite her as a reason for their success. Benko said, “The intensity of her class forced us to learn time management and improve our writing skills.” Benko also said Mrs. Bach has helped him to improve his writing skills this year, pushing him to an extent he never has been pushed before.

The IASP closed their statement saying, “Please join IASP in congratulating these students on all they have already achieved, as well as offering support and encouragement as they continue their accomplishments and expand their knowledge, growth and leadership skills well into the future.”
