“I am super excited for the chance to run for regionals as a team!” said freshman cross country runner Mary Bea Sowinski.

Last weekend at the Brebeuf sectional, both the girls and boys varsity cross country teams placed fifth, advancing to regionals. Advancing past sectionals has been a team goal since the beginning of the season.

“None of us were really expecting to advance, so it was very emotional, especially for our seniors,” said junior Ethan Clapas.

The runners have been preparing this week for Saturday’s meet. “I’ve come to practice with a good attitude. I’ve also been eating healthy and trying to get a lot of sleep,” said Clapacs.

Sowinski agrees that mentality will be key to success. “I’ve tried to be very focused and mentally prepared. I have also been hydrating all week, and I’ve gone over the course map,” said Sowinski.

The teams will compete in regionals Saturday, Oct. 13 at Chinquapin Ridge Cross Country Course. The course is only 30 minutes from BCHS, at 19000 Cumberland Road. Girls run at 10:30 a.m. Boys start at 11:15 a.m.
