The Bishop Chatard Walk-a-thon is a 2-mile walk down Northgate with BCHS students, faculty, support staff, and parent volunteers. Students will raise money to participate in Walk-a-thon, and it will go toward establishing the Trojan Activity Fund. This fund will provide money for clubs, extracurriculars, and new activities.

The day begins with an all-school talent show, along with the chess and ping-pong championship, and ends with the Freshman through Senior “Powder Puff” football games.

Students are asked to make a minimum donation of $10, but there are incentives if students donate more. Students can collect donations from relatives, neighbors, friends, business owners and others in their local community. Students will turn in their money in the designated envelopes in the cafeteria during all lunch periods this week and next. All money is due by April 26.

Dismissal will be at 1 p.m. after all students have returned from the Walkathon and enjoyed a picnic lunch courtesy of the school. Students are allowed to wear jeans or sweatpants with a BCHS t-shirt. If a student does not bring in a minimum of $10, he or she will participate in a “Thank-a-Thon” (letter writing campaign thanking some of the significant donors to Bishop Chatard during the 17-18 school year) during the walk portion of Walkathon.

Freshman Moira McGinley is very excited to participate in her first Walk-a-thon. “I’ve never done something like this before and I’m happy that they decided to bring it back this year. It’ll be fun to not be in the classroom and spend time the whole day outside with my friends,” said McGinley.

Senior Lindsey Traub said, “I am super happy that they changed it back to Walk-a-thon because I feel like more people participate rather than spread out and talk. I really love at the end when we all go sit in the lawn and enjoy lunch with each other. It really shows that BCHS is a community.”

If the entire student body raises over $17,000, Vice president for advancement Mr. Tyler Mayer will sleep on the roof of BCHS on the night of May 3, 2018!
